Standard Strings: Replacement Strings for Recurve, Longbow and More

For most recurve bows, longbows, and traditional bows, you don't need a custom string. A standard string fits a wide range of bows and comes in various lengths, strand counts, and materials. For a full breakdown of string designs and materials like Dacron and Fast Flight, head to our bow strings overview.

Will a Standard String Fit My Bow?

In most cases, yes. Some bow models do require a special string tailored specifically to that model. Check the included manual or the manufacturer's website to find out if yours is one of them. You can also search for your bow model directly in our shop.

Compound bows are a special case: they require cables in addition to a string. You'll find everything you need in our strings and cables for compound bows section.

Length and Strand Count: What You Need to Know

String length follows your bow length. The rule of thumb: the string is four inches shorter than your bow. When ordering a replacement string at BogenSportWelt, just enter your bow length — our shop automatically matches you with the correct string length.

Strand count depends on your bow's draw weight. If you're buying a replacement string for the first time, count the strands on your old string. Also keep in mind: a higher strand count means a thicker string, which may require nocks with a wider groove.
