The bows in detail

  • DRAKE Wild Honey - 62-70 inch - 18-40 lbs - Take Down Recurve Bow

The DRAKE Wild Honey is a 3-piece recurve bow, consisting of a 20 or 24 inch riser and fiberglass-reinforced limbs made of maple wood. The bow is particularly appealing because of its attractive appearance, which will convince almost anyone of the comfort of a wooden riser. But of course, it's not just the looks that make the Wild Honey an interesting beginner's bow. Because with a bow length of 62 to 70 inches and draw weights of 18-38 lbs (in 2 lbs increments), the Wild Honey is suitable for almost any (beginner) shooter. It also fits well in the hand and is not only ideal for beginners due to its light weight (approx. 930-1100g), but is also recommended for more demanding archers due to its equipment with sight, stabilizer and button bushing (5/16 x 24).
  • DRAKE Dark Chocolate - 62-70 inch - 18-38 lbs - Take Down Recurve Bow

The DRAKE Dark Chocolate is a 3-piece recurve bow consisting of a 20 or 24 inch riser and fiberglass reinforced maple wood limbs. The riser pleases with its appealing appearance in gray-brown tones reminiscent of dark chocolate. But of course, it's not just the looks that make the Dark Chocolate riser an interesting starting point for a beginner bow, because with its ergonomic shape and an available length of 20 or 24 inches, it not only fits well and securely in the hand, but with the appropriate limbs, also allows bow lengths of 62 to 70 inches. By using wood as material for the riser, it is relatively light and has a weight of only (approx.) 520g or (approx.) 765g. Finally, the equipment with sight, stabilizer and button bushing (5/16 x 24) leaves nothing to be desired and makes the riser recommendable for more demanding shooters.
  • DRAKE Alabaster - 62-70 Inch - 16-42 lbs - Take Down Recurve Bow

The DRAKE Alabaster is a 3-piece recurve bow that is especially suitable for beginners. Consisting of a 20 inch or 24 inch long riser and combined with fiberglass reinforced limbs in black or wood look, the bow pleases at first sight. Its appearance is determined by a classic real wood centerpiece in warm, light brown tones. Interrupted only by fine decorative strips of reddish-brown wood.

But of course it is not only the appearance that makes the riser the ideal starting point for a beginner's bow, because with its ergonomic shapes it not only lies well and securely in the hand, but also allows with the appropriate limbs, bow lengths of 62 to 70 inches. By using wood as material for the riser, it is relatively light and has a weight of only 650g (20 inches) or 800g (24 inches). Equipped with a sight, stabilizer and button socket (5/16 x 24), this entry-level centerpiece is also interesting for more ambitious shooters, as a sight, button and stabilizers can also be mounted without any problems.
  • DRAKE Greyhound - 62-70 inch - 16-38 lbs - Take Down Recurve Bow

The DRAKE Greyhound recurve bow inevitably draws everyone under its spell. The different shades of gray of the riser are reminiscent of the brindled coat of its namesake, the Greyhound, probably the most famous breed of greyhound in the world. The grain shows a variety of different shades of gray, from deep cool blue-gray to delicate warm greige. This is made possible by the modern material Dymondwood, from which the handle is made. Dymondwood is a highly stable compound of several layers of wood, which are bonded with epoxy resin under high pressure and as a result has the ideal characteristic for archery to absorb vibrations excellently.

But of course, it is not only the appearance that makes the Greyhound riser an interesting starting point for a beginner bow. With its weight of only (approx.) 540g or (approx.) 710g, its ergonomic shape and an available length of 20 or 24 inches, it not only lies well and securely in the hand, but also allows bow lengths of 62 to 70 inches with the appropriate limbs. This makes it possible to assemble a bow that will convince everyone of the comfort of a wooden riser. The equipment with sight, stabilizer and button socket (5/16 x 24) also leaves nothing to be desired and makes the riser also recommendable for more demanding archers.

Right-handed or left-handed?

Determination of the draw hand

The draw hand is the hand that pulls the string. This means that a right-handed bow is held in the left hand and drawn with the right hand.

Determining your personal draw hand has far less to do with whether you are left-handed or right-handed than you might initially assume. It is much more about determining the dominant eye. The dominant eye is used for aiming. This then automatically results in the draw hand.

The term dominant eye refers to the eye whose visual information is superimposed on everything. If a shooter tried to aim with the other eye, he would have to close the dominant eye.

There are two ways of determining the dominant eye: On the one hand, it is the eye that is generally favoured, for example when looking through the viewfinder of a camera, through the peephole or similar situations. On the other hand, there is a small exercise that can be used to determine the dominant eye beyond doubt:

  • The arms are stretched out and a triangle is formed with the thumbs and index fingers of both hands.
  • A small target is aimed at through the triangle, for example a socket or a cupboard knob. Focus on this object.
  • The hands are now slowly brought towards the face without taking the target object out of focus.
  • The triangle of thumb and index fingers will involuntarily tend towards one side of the face and this is where the dominant eye is located.

If the dominance of the eye and hand do not match, the bow should still be selected according to eye dominance. The arms can be easily retrained for the new draw hand, but not the eye.
