DRAKE Pathfinder Starter - Compound bow

The DRAKE Pathfinder Compound bow is an absolute masterpiece! No other bow on the market currently offers a better price-performance ratio. The matt black Pathfinder comes with a center section made of high-quality magnesium in a modern shoot-through design, the advantages of which are obvious: The arrow lies optimally in the center of the bow when shooting and the bow window, which is closed on both sides, gives the Pathfinder unimagined stability. This virtually eliminates torsional forces within the riser. Last but not least, the through-bow design makes the Pathfinder an ambidextrous bow that can be shot by both right-handed and left-handed shooters (conversion necessary, bow press required).

With an ATA length - the distance between the axes of the cams - of 30 inches, the Pathfinder is very well balanced. Compared to other beginner bows, which are often specially designed for bowhunting and are therefore significantly shorter, the Pathfinder is smoother and more forgiving when shooting. Nevertheless, it remains easy to handle and is ideal for target and 3D shooting.

For maximum comfort and optimum setup, both the draw weight and the draw length can be adjusted over a wide range. Between 24.5 and 30 inch Draw length and 40 to 65 lbs draw weight, every shooter will find the optimum setting.

The CNC-milled aluminum cams and the split limbs made of high-quality fiberglass from Gordon Glass, the leading manufacturer of high-performance limb materials, generate arrow speeds of up to 320 fps or 351 km/h. This means that the Pathfinder is more than a match for the much more expensive competition. Rubber dampers are also fitted between the limbs to minimize vibrations and noise.

As a DRAKE Pathfinder Starter, the bow comes ex works with an illuminated sight with 5 fluorescent pins, a peep sight, a D-loop, a whisker-biscuit arrow rest and a stabilizer.

Right-handed or left-handed?

Determination of the draw hand

The draw hand is the hand that pulls the string. This means that a right-handed bow is held in the left hand and drawn with the right hand.

Determining your personal draw hand has far less to do with whether you are left-handed or right-handed than you might initially assume. It is much more about determining the dominant eye. The dominant eye is used for aiming. This then automatically results in the draw hand.

The term dominant eye refers to the eye whose visual information is superimposed on everything. If a shooter tried to aim with the other eye, he would have to close the dominant eye.

There are two ways of determining the dominant eye: On the one hand, it is the eye that is generally favoured, for example when looking through the viewfinder of a camera, through the peephole or similar situations. On the other hand, there is a small exercise that can be used to determine the dominant eye beyond doubt:

  • The arms are stretched out and a triangle is formed with the thumbs and index fingers of both hands.
  • A small target is aimed at through the triangle, for example a socket or a cupboard knob. Focus on this object.
  • The hands are now slowly brought towards the face without taking the target object out of focus.
  • The triangle of thumb and index fingers will involuntarily tend towards one side of the face and this is where the dominant eye is located.

If the dominance of the eye and hand do not match, the bow should still be selected according to eye dominance. The arms can be easily retrained for the new draw hand, but not the eye.

More information on choosing the right type of bow, the right draw weight and the right arrows can be found here: A brief introduction to archery
