Hungarian Horse Bow for Teenagers and Adults
The horse bow was developed in Asia. The best-known archers are the Huns and Mongols, who have used this prototype of bow manufactured over centuries. The horse bows were, as the name suggests, designed and perfect for shooting from the horse. After all, when riding on horseback, the space is limited or the mounted warrior must remain agile in order to survive or successfully hunt. Following these requirements, the horse bow is very short compared to the long and recurve bow and still has a long draw length.
However, other peoples around the world also developed horse bows, which did not differ significantly in their basic function, but each represented its own variant. In Europe, it is probably the Magyars (Hungarians) who enjoy an excellent reputation as horsemen, shooters and bowmakers and who, in turn, shaped the horse bow themselves.
While the original horse bows were made of wood, horn and strings, modern, cheaper bows are made of materials such as fibreglass and leather.
The Savaria is one of these modern horse bows and the largest model in the DRAKE range of horse bows. Made from pressed fibreglass, it has a draw weight from 20 to 65 lbs (selectable in 5 lbs increments) and appeals with a soft draw length to its highly perceptible maximum draw length of 28".
For a traditional look, the bow is covered with soft leather in black, brown and light brown. The limbs are in black, the grip in light brown and the tips in dark brown. Windings with thick thread frame the grip and the tips.
The horse bow is suitable for teenagers and adults with a short draw length and can, of course, also be used without a horse.
