Hungarian Horse Bow with Fur Cover
The horse bow was developed in Asia. The best-known archers are the Huns and Mongols, who have used this prototype of bow manufactured over centuries. The horse bows were, as the name suggests, designed and perfect for shooting from the horse. After all, when riding on horseback, space is limited or the mounted warrior must remain agile in order to survive or successfully hunt. Following these requirements, the horse bow is very short compared to the long and recurve bow and still has a long draw length.
But also other peoples worldwide developed horse bows, which did not differ in the basic function appreciably, but nevertheless, each represented their own variants. In Europe, it is probably the Magyars (Hungarians) who enjoy an excellent reputation as riders, archers and bowmakers and who have shaped the horse bow themselves.
While the original horse bows were made of wood, horn and strings, modern, cheaper bows are made of materials such as fibreglass and leather.
The Savaria Hairy is one of these modern horse bows and the largest model in the DRAKE range of horse bows. Made from pressed fibreglass, it has a draw weight of 20 to 65 lbs (selectable in 5 lbs increments) and appeals with a soft draw length to its tangible maximum length of 28".
For more traditional look, the bow is covered with soft leather in black, brown and light brown. Windings with thick thread also decorate the grip and the tips. The limbs, on the other hand, are extravagantly designed and covered with real fur, which not only looks particularly good, but also reduces the noise of the bow.
The horse bow is suitable for teenagers and adults with a short draw length and can, of course, also be used without a horse.
