DRAKE ARCHERY ELITE Tapir - 54" - 20-50 lbs - Hybrid bow
The DRAKE ARCHERY ELITE Tapir is a successful combination of different, harmonising materials. Dymondwood in the middle section, black fibreglass laminate in the limbs and bamboo strips that "frame" the riser and run through the entire bow result in a compact, slender and incredibly light bow.
The Dymondwood used is an innovative material made of several layers of wood that are bonded with epoxy resin to form a highly stable material. The different layers of wood allow for a completely new colour design of the riser and provide an absolutely unique look in grey and black, subtly reminiscent of the fur colours of a tapir. Tapirs, with their streamlined physique, are perfectly built for the undergrowth in the tropical rainforest, where they can escape fines so nimbly, but also defend themselves perfectly against big cats like puma and co. thanks to powerful canines. All in all, a fitting, if somewhat bizarre, namesake for a bow.
But this material also offers some technical advantages: It is light, absorbs vibrations and allows for faster, smoother shooting.
The grip area, which looks very slim at first glance, is actually "different" the first time you take it in your hand, because its ergonomic shape with a relatively flat palm rest is dimensioned in such a way that it lies optimally in the hand and certainly suggests a larger bow. This gives the bow a pleasant binding and the archer good control over the bow.
Of course, it is not only the look that impresses, but also the finesse of the hybrid bow. No wonder, as this type of bow combines the best of two worlds: At first glance it looks like a longbow, but at 54 inches it is clearly too short to be a "real" longbow. However, it makes up for the lack of size with the typical feature of a recurve bow, the clearly visible reflex-deflex shape in the limbs, and thus cleverly combines the characteristics of a longbow with those of a recurve bow. The result is a compact bow with a smooth draw, high arrow speeds and an almost complete reduction of vibrations in the grip. As usual with a traditional longbow, the string of the hybrid bow does not touch the limbs, but only the tips.

Determination of the draw hand
The draw hand is the hand that pulls the string. This means that a right-hand bow is held in the left hand and pulled out with the right hand.
The determination of the personal draw hand has far less to do with whether one is left or right-hand than one might initially assume. Rather, it is a matter of determining the dominant eye. The dominant eye is used for targeting. This automatically results in the draw hand.
The term "dominant eye" refers to the eye the visual information of which superimposes everything. If a shooter would try to aim with the other eye, he would have to pinch the dominant eye.
There are two ways to determine the dominant eye: On the one hand, it is the eye that is generally preferred, for example when looking through the viewfinder of a camera, through the spyhole or similar situations. On the other hand, there is a small exercise with which the dominant eye can be determined beyond doubt:
- The arms are stretched out and with thumb and index fingers of both hands, a triangle is formed.
- The triangle is used to target a small target, such as a power socket or a cabinet knob. This object is focused.
- The hands are now slowly moved towards the face without the target being taken out of focus.
- The triangle of thumb and index fingers will automatically incline to one half of the face and the dominant eye will lie within it.
If eye and hand dominance do not match, the bow should still be selected according to eye dominance. The arms can easily be trained on the new draw hand, the eye cannot.
